On The Bus

On The Bus

On the Bus is a fun and interactive introduction to the Peterborough Transit System provided to Grade 3 classes in the city of Peterborough. This program focuses on active and sustainable transportation choices, and is tailored to meet specific curriculum expectations.

This 1.5-hour trip begins when the City Bus arrives at your school to pick you up! As we travel around Peterborough, students practice their map reading skills and develop a greater knowledge of their local community.  The trip includes a stop at the Peterborough Transit Authority’s Bus Barn for a chance to interview the bus driver!

On the Bus was developed more than a decade ago by Active School Travel Peterborough as a way to introduce children to public transit. The program generates excitement and enthusiasm about riding the bus, and also encourages younger students to begin making connections between their transportation behaviour and its environmental impact. This program is among the most successful programs offered by Active School Travel Peterborough.
