Welcome to Community Shifting Gears 2017!

Track how you shift your gears this spring, and have a chance to win super Community Shifting Gears awards and prizes!

Peterborough’s month-long transportation challenge is now open to the whole community. It’s a chance for you to make the shift towards active and sustainable transportation. You can change those daily habits and try something new with a little support and encouragement from your community of fellow shifters. As a student, employee, or community member you can track all of the trips you made by walking, biking, transit, carpooling, or telecommuting during the month of May. This includes trips to work, school, friends, appointments, errands – you name it – it counts!

Are you a Super Shifter?

Have you participated in Shifting Gears year after year? If so, we’ve seen all those trips you’ve logged and we know you’ve made the shift. So, we invite you to join as a Super Shifter in 2017 – less logging of trips, same chances for you and your workplace to win! Register as normal and then click the Super Shifter button.

First 500 to 15

The first 500 participants to log 15 sustainable trips will win special discounts and prizes to help you walk, bike, and bus around town. Transit passes, umbrellas, and discounts at Wild Rock and B!KE are up for grabs. Log early and log often to make the First 500! NEW Workshops and Services

Bike Night, Tackling Transit, Skateboard Cruiser School, Crafting a Telecommuting Policy, and Bike-friendly Business Audits are just some of what’s new in 2017. Find free customized workshops and services are available for your school, workplace, or community group to help you make the shift this spring.

Register yourself, a friend, or the whole family for a community workshop or bike tour this spring to meet other Shifters and build some skills.

Strava is an online trip mapping app that can track where you choose to walk or bike. We are able to look at this data (not individual trips, just a regional data set) to see hot spots, or places where people most frequently walked or biked. This information can help the City find priority locations for new sidewalks, trails, and bike lanes. If you’d like to add your trips to this regional data set, you can sign up at:
